Joe Bonamassa is due to release his latest album on 25th October. This LP features a live recording at the UNESCO heritage Sydney Opera House. He adds this to a long list of live recordings in many of the world’s most iconic buildings … do we see a pattern emerging? … how many more is Joe going to tick off before he hangs up his guitar? Despite the fact that this must be his 17th live LP he manages to make each one unique, he assembles some of the greatest live performers around him and provides the listener with just enough to make the live and studio LP’s compliment each other. This release features a performance-based around his 2016 Blues of Desperation LP and in fact features 7 tracks from the LP.
Many critics touted this LP as possibly one of his finest works and for sure 3 years on these songs still stand up and the live versions breathe new life into the songs. Accompanied by Keyboard wizard Reese Wynans Joe takes ‘How Deep This River Runs’ to a beautiful winding conclusion, and ‘Mountain Climbing; reaches new heights with the horns shining through.
Just watch the newly released video of “This Train”, the LP’s opening track and you’ll see why Bonomassa’s popularity has not waned and he continues to sell out venues across the world.
Other highlights from the LP are the cover ‘Mainline Florida’ which first appeared on Joe’s British Blues Explosion tribute to Clapton,Paige and Beck and possibly one of the most musically crafted blues guitar solos you will ever hear on the closing song ‘No Place for the Lonely’ … simply sublime.
Yet again Joe releases an LP that every blues enthusiast will want to add to their collection and … if you are not already familiar with his work … then this is a cracking place to start.
In addition, to LIVE AT THE SYDNEY OPERA HOUSE, Bonamassa has mentioned a studio album on the horizon. He’s currently in the process of writing new songs, with plans to hit the studio this winter, and as fans can see from his Instagram and extensive ever-growing list of international tour dates, the diehard musician is rarely without a guitar in hand, curating new melodies, solos, and endlessly developing his craft, never ceasing to amaze his listeners.
Catch Joe when he returns to our shores later next year….
