It is that time of year again, Joe has returned to grace the stage and light up our lives after a dismal 18 months or more. Once again get the opportunity to give praise at the altar of Joe Bonamassa.
Time Clocks is a fairly apt title coming out of the pandemic as we all try to regain society and those who spent so much time off the road reflect on the journey’s not taken. Two years is a very long time in anyone’s book, but for axing musicians especially it must have felt like a lifetime. Thankfully there seems to be light at the end of the tunnel and one such light is the return of Joe Bonamassa and his ten-track beauty to whet the appetite once again.
‘Pilgrimage’ opens up proceedings and in a quick lick the hair’s will be standing on the back of your neck in anticipation but is not until ‘Notches’ and Bonamassa signature style riffs kick in that you know, “Daddy’s Home” The sultry vocals combined with Bonamassa’s biting tone just feels so god damn good as the air moves in the room and fills it up with bluesy goodness. Bonamassa’s gargantuan tone is all over this album as you would expect, and with his trusty team around him once again there is a consistency that you would expect with any Bonamassa recording, yet a fresh-faced sound with bigger more anthemic sounding tracks that will fit any music hall or stadium perfectly.
Joe has upped his game once again as his ability to mesh the guitar-wizardry with meaningful storytelling is something only a few can do so well, emotive guitar lines interweave with gut-wrenching vocal melodies that cut like a knife. Bonamassa brings a lifetimes experience to a recording like this, alongside his trusty sidekick in Kevin Shirley and the addition of Bob Clearmountain to mix it you have a sumptuous collection of songs that only the mercurial could deliver.
Worth the wait? Take my money now sir!
