Jethro Tull-approved U.S. progressive rock act Edensong heading to the UK for the first time 02/10/2018 UK TOUR 2018 “A great example of the contemporary face of progressive rock.” Ian Anderson (Jethro Tull) After a hugely successful return to live shows in 2017, sharing the stage with everyone from Pain of Salvation to Neal Morse, New York’s Edensong are coming to the UK for the first time! The band will be appearing at the much-loved Summer’s End festival and then heading out around the UK for a string of shows, in support of their acclaimed ‘Years in the Garden of Years’ album. As you can imagine, the band are thrilled to be heading to the country that has spawned so many of their influences, including the legendary Jethro Tull, whose leader Ian Anderson has already expressed his support for Edensong and their music. The latest line-up includes long-time members; the heroically-bearded singer/guitarist James Schoen, second singer and bass playing hobbit/spider-demon TD Towers, and hypnotizing “dancing muppet” flute player Barry Seroff. Alongside virtuoso Koto player and composer Kento Iwasaki, plus drummer (and long-time friend of Edensong) Nicholas DiGregorio, whose improvisational skill and jazz background makes him the perfect addition to the line-up. The band’s self-released 2008 debut “The Fruit Fallen” was hailed as a “masterpiece” by critics and helped to pave the way for a run of incendiary live shows and notable festival appearances throughout North America, including Progday in North Carolina, Three Rivers Progressive Rock Festival in Pittsburgh, PA, and Festival Terra Incognita in Quebec City, where Edensong shared the stage with acts ranging from Ozric Tentancles to Kings X to Discipline. Edensong’s follow-up, “Years in the Garden of Years,” was released in September 2016 through Laser’s Edge. The concept record further explores the bands intricately composed eclectic orchestral rock style but infuses it with more energy and undeniable power. The melodies are more memorable, the riffs more powerful, the flute playing more inventive and propulsive. The songs prominently layered with immersive new textures; from lush keyboard and orchestral arrangements to esoteric percussion from around the globe; including hang drum and Balinese gamelan. Thanks to the fantastic response “Years in the Garden of Years” enjoyed from right across the progressive rock community (and sagacious guidance from some of the genre’s luminaries) Edensong made a stunning return to live performances in 2017. Which saw the band touring the US and Canada and appear at several festival including a prominent appearance at RoSfest 2017, as well as sharing the stage with the likes of Pain of Salvation, Neal Morse, Anglagard and many more.
