What can you say about Jason Becker, a man who rose to notoriety in the late 80’s for his masterful guitar work alongside friend and compatriot Marty Friedman in Cacophony. The two laid down a blistering foundation for young guitarists worldwide to marvel and aspire too. His success as a solo artists lead him to the holy grail of jobs working with the enigmatic David Lee Roth replacing the might Steve Vai, a thankless task for many, but not for one Jason Becker.

On completion of A Little A’int Enough Becker noticed a few issues and this lead to the devastating news that he had ALS (Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis), which rocked the music world. It brought his world crashing down on him and meant he couldn’t tour the album with DLR. As his situation deteriorated Becker found himself wheelchair bound and through sheer determination along with his father developed a method of communication using his eyes so that they could talk, which then eventually lead to Becker using this to once again write music. The infamous documentary Jason Becker – Not Dead Yet told the story of his determination to beat ALS and defy the odd’s as he once again pursued his love of music.

Triumphant Hearts is one such testimony to the great man, it is a stunning collection of music that not only through fellow like minded greats of the business, Steve Vai, Joe Satriani, Marty Friedman and the likes convey Becker’s musical genius through some blistering guitar work, but also showcase his compositional skills through mesmerising arrangements and gorgeous atmospheric storytelling. This is not just a shredfest by any means, it goes way beyond that and delves deep into Becker’s mind and love to orchestral pieces. This album is an audible journey through the brain of one of Rock’s finest ambassadors conveyed by those who loved him and the few who are capable of translating such majesty into recorded music.

A veritable who’s who of players on this sublime album take the breath away within its fourteen tracks. Years in the making, yet well worth the wait.

Triumphant Hearts is released Friday Dec 7th and is an absolute must for all.
