‘…another belting anthem for the disenfranchised’ – The Line of Best Fit
Hartlepool singer-songwriter James Leonard-Hewitson today (15th July) shares ‘Commercial Vibe’, his first new music since the acclaimed 2020 debut album ‘Only The Noise Will Save Me’.
Having entered the music industry through playing as a session trumpeter for Frankie and The Heartstrings on their UK tour with The Charlatans in December 2015; James stylistically draws upon influences from a broad musical spectrum; from post-punk, brit-pop & indie-rock through to new-wave & classical to create his infectious, nostalgic take on lo-fi pop.
Tipped by everyone from i-D, CLASH, Consequence, BBC 6Music and Radio X through to Made in Chelsea, Tattoo Fixers, BT Sport and Sky Sports News, the release of his debut album, ‘Only The Noise Will Save Me’ in 2020 saw James win End of The Road Festival’s ‘Play EOTR’ competition judged by The Line of Best Fit; earning him a slot on the festival’s 2021 line up.
On ‘Commercial Vibe’, the lead single from a forthcoming EP, ‘Commercial’ (out 29th July),we find James channeling his frustrations on the resilience of capitalism throughout the COVID pandemic into an addictive, tetchy lo-fi cut fuelled by nostalgic, 80’s-esque synths and James’s sprightly vocals.
“It’s mainly about and inspired by the cold resilience of capitalist thought in society and government during the Coronavirus pandemic. How, despite disaster, death and tragedy, whims and desires were still being packaged and sent out from Amazon Warehouses.”,tells James.
‘Commercial Vibe’ is released via all digital platforms on Thursday 15th July.
‘Commercial’, the new EP is out Thursday 29th July and available as a limited edition cassette tape via Win Big Records.
