“Hyro’s chosen battlefield is the treacherous music industry and he’s been victorious thanks to persistence and a cunning fusion of hip hop and rock music.” – Houston Press

HOUSTON, TX – DECEMBER 3, 2021 – Today, Houston’s critically acclaimed rock/hip-hop fusion artist Hyro The Heroreleased the title track from his KIDS AGAINST THE MONSTERS mixtape, rounding out a tracklist of previously released singles featuring high-profile fellow artists (via Better Noise Music). Hyro pushes back on criticism against the younger generations on “Kids Against The Monsters,” as the rap/rock artist encourages people to band together in an effort to make a positive difference in the world. The new single also questions society’s programming, acknowledging today’s youth for carrying the torch and continuing to fight against oppression. The track is featured in episode eight of Apple TV+’s new basketball drama series Swagger, which premiered today. The series is executive produced by NBA player Kevin Durant and directed by acclaimed filmmaker Reggie Rock Bythewood.”Kids Against The Monsters” is available now to stream and download across digital platforms HERE. An official lyric video for the track was also released today. WATCH HERE.

Hyro said of his new track, “My song ‘Kids Against The Monsters’ has to be one of my favorite tracks I’ve ever done. I’m singing on the chorus, which I don’t often do, and I think the lyrics convey a meaningful and powerful message of how it feels going through society being looked down upon by the older generations. Big corporations, along with the people and power they represent, have too much control and yet are not understanding the youth’s reaction to the complications we are facing at this time. But technology has become a staple in our upbringing and has forced the world to listen to younger generations in ways they couldn’t before. I believe this song speaks to that and more in an epic way.”

Thrilled that the single will appear in episode 8 of Apple TV+’s Swagger, Hyro also stated, “I truly can’t describe the excitement I feel to have my song Kids Against the Monsters in Kevin’s Durants new show on Apple TV+ called Swagger. I grew up with basketball as a big part of my life and the show is a great example of how basketball can change young lives. It also details the issues young men and women in these communities can face. There are ‘monsters’ out there trying to destroy you and bring you down daily, and people who do not understand your struggle coming up in this crazy world. I think the song is a perfect fit for this show and the scene on display. I’m thankful I was able to be part of something so dope, especially growing up as a hooper.”

Previously, Hyro dropped the incendiary “FU2 (Feat. AJ Channer of Fire From The Gods),” following the release of the mixtape’s unapologetic lead single Legendary,” featuring Brandon Saller of legendary metalcore band Atreyu. Songs will continue to be added to the KIDS AGAINST THE MONSTERS mixtape in the new year. In a reflective piece published by Knotfest earlier this year, Hyro announced the project and explained how his Houston roots introduced him to the idea of the mixtape, expressing how sacred that concept is in the hip-hop community to reaching new fans. Although he’s been emotionally pulled towards rock music, he still has that mixtape and hip-hop ideology embedded in his DNA. Read the full statement HERE. Additionally, Knotfest has aired a series of interviews with Hyro and his collaborators to dive deeper into the project and the inspiration behind each track. The mixtape also features collaborations with Spencer Charnas of Ice Nine Kills and Chad Grey of Hellyeah.

ABOUT HYRO THE HERO

In addition to acclaim from Kerrang!, The BBC, Revolverand Afropunk, Alternative Press retrospectively praised Hyro among, “19 Underrated Bands From The 2010s Who Deserve Another Listen” and claimed, “You know that band who other groups flock to so they can watch from the side of the stage? That’s Hyro.”

After non stop touring in support of his last album, Hyro dove right into the studio with producer Matt Good [Asking Alexandria, Hollywood Undead, From First To Last]. Under a flurry of inspiration, they recorded an entire album over the course of just two weeks. In the process, he expanded his sound dramatically.

“You can see and hear the growth in this album,” he says. “I had to go through everything that brought me to this point and I’ve really learned how to focus on storylines and approach records structurally and lyrically. All of my experience built up respect to work with some of my heroes on the new material.”  He grins and says, “I want to have my name in this game for a lifetime.”

With this new music, he’s well on his way to such a status.
