HORSEHUNTER have premiered the track ‘Nuclear Rapture (live)‘, taken from the Australian sludge-mongers’ forthcoming “Day of Doom Live” full-length that is slated for release on December 11th.

Magnetic Eye Records present a blistering live document of flagship band HORSEHUNTER destroying onstage at the “Day of Doom” label showcase at Brooklyn’s Saint Vitus Bar. This once-in-a-lifetime gathering was held in November 2019 to celebrate MER’s first decade. It featured nine roster acts performing back-to-back, with the four headline sets captured live by Chris Johnson (DEAFHEAVEN, SUMMONER) to commemorate the event as a set of exclusive live albums.

‘Nuclear Rapture (live)’ is now available for immediate publication via YouTube:

HORSEHUNTER comment: “I recall that ‘Nuclear Rapture’ was one of those tracks that came together pretty quickly, probably in a single rehearsal, and on which everyone made their contribution”, tells guitarist Dan Harris. “At that point, Mike and I were catching up regularly to work on material for the second album and we had come up with two semi-connected ideas, one mid-paced and the other a little faster. They were going more in the direction of songs like Witchery on our first album, but when we started to play through them in rehearsal, the doomier elements from the first half of that album started to emerge too. We didn’t plan it out initially, it was just one idea coming after another in a more or less improvisational fashion. There wasn’t much need at first for anyone to dictate what was coming next or who should play what. Somehow, we managed to stay on the same page, and by the end of the rehearsal, after a bit of reflection and refinement, we had a basic structure. Then it took approximately a year to decide who was going to do the solo.”

HORSEHUNTERs’ furious, multi-movement sludge separates them from a world of bands that are content to simply pummel, as they range from soft and sinister to unbound aggression half a dozen times in the course of a single song. The Australian’s 2015 album “Caged in Flesh” and the self-titled 2019 follow-up present monumental, carefully-constructed epics that may as well have been created to carry fans of SLEEP and NEUROSIS blissfully to Valhalla.

“Day of Doom Live” presents HORSEHUNTER delivering their crushing brand of music that The Obelisk simply calls, “brutal as shit,” in a special  live setting, burning down the metaphorical stage, and branding those who hear it with the mark of true enlightenment.
