Hot on the heels of their acclaimed new EP, Brighton-based musical riot ĠENN todayunveil their unruly new single ‘Catalyst’ via London’s Everything Sucks Music.
Released alongside a new live version of the previously released ‘Feel’ – ‘Catalyst’ is the band’s call to arms. Storming through snarling guitars and a thrashing rhythm section, ĠENN call for us to “stay awake”, expressing their need to implement true change in wake of the political events of the past twelve months.
“The word ‘revolution’ has often been used in more grand ways throughout collective history, but ‘Catalyst’ started as more of a personal rediscovery, realising that everyday is a ‘work in progress’ in order to wake up from the coma of tradition.” explains vocalist Leona Farrugia.
“In previous years, I understood the importance of moving forwards, doing my best to cast off the shackles of the past. In this sense, the song acts as a way to remember that change starts from within.”
ĠENN (pronounced Jenn) is a trans-national, genre-blending, musical riot, ready to rock your ears and mess with your brain. Serving alternative post-punk madness with a fun twist, fresh out of their DIY framework – the quartet is formed of Leona Farrugia (Vocals), Janelle Borg (guitar), Leanne Zammit (bass) and Sofia Rosa Cooper (drums).
Flying through the year with a string of acclaimed releases, 2021 has seen the bandgrow from strength to strength. Whether it be playing live sessions for The Great Escape Online and The Line of Best Fit, asocially distanced show at London’s Moth Club or amassing consistent praise from the likes of BBC6 Music, XS Manchester, KEXP, BBC Introducing and Amazing Radio; ĠENN’s infectious tunes and honest, relatable themes show a band set to soar.
‘Catalyst’ is released 25th August via Everything Sucks Music – a repress of the band’s latest EP, ‘Liminal’ is on sale now.
