Taipei Houston, a duo comprised of brothers Myles (drums, guitar) and Layne Ulrich (vocals, bass), will release their debut project ‘Once Bit Never Bored’ on November 4th via C3 Records. They launch the project with their new single ‘The Middle’, which continues their invigorating sound rooted in fiery drums and electrifying basslines. The duo previously made a big introduction with festival sets at ReadingLeeds and Lollapalooza.

‘The Middle’ follows the duo’s debut song ‘As The Sun Sets, an intoxicatingly thrilling track balanced between distorted bass and tight, snappy drums before briskly breaking for its rousing hook. It set Taipei Houston on the way to earn international attention that has included ConsequenceGuitar WorldKerrang!LouderLoudwireMXDWN, Clash, Rock Sound and NME.

On ‘Once Bit Never Bored’Taipei Houston viscerally tap into all of the best parts of the last 30 years of rock ‘n’ roll, layering stripped back, frenetic garage rock with grunge’s fuzzy overdrive, and psych rock’s effortless instrumental sprawl. The band’s sleek, high intensity songs instantly conjure other iconic duos, such as The KillsDeath From Above 1979, and, of course, The White Stripes.

The duo commented, “To us, Taipei Houston is about going against the grain in every aspect. We live in a time that is ripe with extremely difficult and confusing challenges. Technology grips the world more and more, politics have become so polarised, we are heading towards climate disaster. This music is born and bred out of the contemporary, buzzing digital anxiety we all experience, and how we can try to escape those feelings – even for a second.”

Emerging from the Bay Area in Northern California, the brothers formed Taipei Houston after returning to their childhood home during the pandemic. They then moved down to Los Angeles, and once able to perform live again, started playing shows throughout Southern California.

Taipei Houston are currently playing a brief run of North American shows with The Melvins, which they follow with festival sets at Louder Than LifeAftershock 2022 and Austin City Limits. Please see here for a full list of dates.
