If ever there was a time for musical anarchists Fever 333 to drop new music it is now, the cluster fuck that is 2020 is well upon us, the chaotic scenes we have seen globally and the civil unrest felt in the USA, followed by the outpouring of support gave a voice often unread to the people.
FEVER 333 vocalist Jason Aalon Butler spent 13 days in the streets as he marched on the frontlines of rebellion in Los Angeles. On the 14th day, he came home and wrote what would become their forthcoming collection, WRONG GENERATION. Butler commented, “This project is art as activism first. I’m talking about what’s happening and what needs to happen. I hope you understand there’s going to be pain in progress. After dismantling and deconstructing all of these things, we can find a beautiful place to be together. For me, this whole release is that 13 days after 34 years. You fucked with the WRONG GENERATION.”
Like their previous material, the Wrong Generation is hard-hitting and straight to the point, they take no prisoners from their lyrics to their gritty melodies and banging backbeats. There was no shortage of inspiration for material here in 2020 and ‘Block Is On Fire’ is a prime example of that, a chaotic explosion of emotion after the death of George Floyd across the US was always going to give creatives like Fever 333 the need to express through their creative expression. Educating and expressing frustration with these repeated cycles within modern American society, like their peers Rage Against The Machine and Hyro The Hero they speak directly to the disenfranchised on their level.
Fever 333 delivers it in spades with the Wrong Generation, an anthemic collection of tracks that perfectly vocalize their thoughts in an outpouring of emotions perfectly translated through eight blistering recordings. Not for the faint at heart, you need to knuckle down for this one but it is well worth it. If you are feeling more than at little pissed off but didn’t quite know how to let it all out, crank this up and wail along with it. You won’t regret it.
