“With its thundering drums, wall-of-noise guitars, and immediate punk-pop hooks,
it has us reminiscing about the likes of Garbage, L7, Smashing Pumpkins…and
most especially Her Royal Obnoxiousness Courtney Love.” – BlackBook Magazine
Today, Long Beach, NY rock band Family Dinner shared their new single and video “You’re So Cool.” Taking cues from acts like Hole, The Cranberries, and Dinosaur Jr., the track is filled with punk-pop sensibilities courtesy of vocalist Natalie Simonelli and fuzzed-out guitars to match. Lyrically, “You’re So Cool” tells the tale of a couple on the run after committing murder, inspired by ‘90s crime films like True Romance and Natural Born Killers. Alongside the release of the single, the band is partnering up with Bright Eye Beer Co. to produce a limited-edition “You’re So Cool” IPA, a crushable, summertime flavor available exclusively at the Long Beach brewery this weekend. You can watch the video for “You’re So Cool” here now and stream the track here.
The single serves as the title track for the band’s debut EP, You’re So Cool, set for release on February 12th, 2021. Recorded over five days with Brett Romnes (The Movielife, I Am The Avalanche) at Barbershop Studios, the four song release came together naturally for the band. The EP covers a wide range of topics – from a love song for their cats, “Eyes”, to “Mahogany”, a song written from the perspective of Bradley Cooper’s character in The Midnight Meat Train. Self-proclaiming themselves as “a band to soundtrack a house party,” Family Dinner aren’t reinventing alt-rock, but bringing back that effortless, cool vibe that makes you want to pay attention.
