Eggs Of Gomorrh // Wombspreader // Album Review

When it comes to unrelenting war metal Eggs Of Gomorrh are the new titans!

Formed in 2008 & crawling from the depths of Switzerland (Geneva), Eggs Of Gomorrh are one of the bands in the war metal / black metal scene who are pushing forward with their sound.

The band’s first full length “Rot Prophet” from 2016 took me by surprise. Not only was it a wall of harsh black metal but it also showed a band who was technically proficient at the sound that they have spawned.

Now in 2022, they are releasing their follow up, “Wombspreader”.

Ten tracks of sadistic black metal running at just over thirty-five minutes.

“Degrading Manifesto” explodes open with the wretched cries of vocalist B.N.G.V. The band blast along with precision & fury.

J.FHRR & INVN provide guitars & bass on the album and their tone is perfect for the band. Harsh yet still really listenable. Cutting through the song & leaving room for the punishing drum performance from drummer GOATPERV.

From start to finish the band are able to show hints of a lot of genres within the “black metal” genre.

Whether it be hints of Archgoat & Goatpenis or Gorgoroth & Early Behemoth the band show a spectrum of influences within “Wombspreader” which is the album’s strongest point.

Keeping it simple but also dipped their toes into other aspects of the band.

“Disciples of Terror” is anthem-like in its quality. Still brash & chaotic it has moments throughout that peak & lingers in the best ways. Halfway through the track, the band strip it back for a few bars before unleashing as a unit again & creating one of the best riffing structures on the album.

Just past the halfway point “Necrosadistic Chasm” shows how strong the song writing’s on the record. A very dissonant track with hints of Incantation & Morbid Angel.

Still, an unhinged track but has moments within that make it the most open with a large epic closing bridge section that makes the track stand out in the band’s catalogue.

The end of the album shows that tracks like “Nefarious Incision” even as a closer is just as punishing & frantic as the rest of the album. It’s hard for some bands to stay consistent throughout an album but Eggs Of Gomorrh have been able to write an album of ten tracks that are all hellish & unlike anything I’ve heard in some time.

Wombspreader is an album that isn’t for the faint of heart but it’s a must-listen for anyone who loves the darker side of the black metal genre. Wombspreader is the band’s best work to date.
