Music fresh from the underground is always highly anticipated, and when it is this good, it feels so good to hear.

Greek band Dødsferd was formed in 2001 by Wrath, as a one-man Raw Death Metal project, however from 2009 continued as a full band and have released two demos, eight full length and six split albums. The last full length The Parasitic Survival of the Human Race was released in 2013, the same year as another full length and an EP, therefore there is no real surprise that it has taken some 5 years to release the next full length.

The passion for music to get absorbed into is clear, as each track is its own epic experience. The album is 52 minutes long and that is spread over 5 tracks, however these tracks by no means drag, as the music winds its way through the darkness with scintillating guitar solos, wonderous melodic sections and then, raw, passionate Black Metal.

Opening track ‘My Father, My Wrath’ is a calm and intricate introduction to the release with a haunting yet beautiful vocal over some soothing riffs and an non-intrusive beat that can easily lull you into a false sense of security before ‘An Existence Without Purpose’ kicks in, the pace is ramped up, the guitars gain speed and the vocal switches to a far more traditional Black Metal sound.

As you might expect from tracks of such length, this doesn’t last through the 11minute track, it twists and turns, paces change, sounds subtly morph as the emotional rollercoaster continues is dark and twisted route. The guitar solos raise up through the blackness as the epic track is contastanly evolving.

This is the way the album flow, many sounds, vocals and paces all intricately blended into full length tracks that grab you, penetrate you and make the emotions flow.

The longest track on the album is ‘Diseased Remnants Of A Dying World’ which clock in at over 16 minutes, however what a track. Sit back, let yourself go and enjoy the incredible solos as they sour over the drums and vocal, feel the emotion and appreciate that what you are listening to is very special.

This album is exciting, emotional, raw, dark and fantastic. For me it is one of, if not the Black Metal album of the year, with the detail and sounds created it is top drawer. The melodies sooth as the Black Metal envelopes to create an incredible listening experience.
