You will struggle to find a fan of Brutal Death Metal who has not heard of the monstrous powerhouse that is Disentomb and now in their 10thyear this unique and brutal band bring us their third offering as they continue to decimate everything in their path.

Having first battered listeners with their debut album Sunken Chambers Of Nephilim in 2010 which was followed in 2014 by Misery, Disentomb has done some serious touring across Europe, The United States and Asia as they have proven themselves to be at the pinnacle of the genre and firing on all brutal cylinders.

As the album opens with ‘Collapsing Skies’ the technicality and blunt force power begin to inflict serious trauma upon you as the guitars create a dark and doomy feeling and the deep guttural vocal begins to work its twisted magic. This opener is a short introduction before ‘Your Prayers Echo Into Nothingness’ begins to work up to the full power of the dark and brutal sound, mixing Doom with Brutal and Technical Death to create their own punishing sound, that is torturously fantastic.

The crushing drums continue to provide the perfect backdrop for the down-tuned guitars, the dark and deep bottom end and then the impressively deep vocal to truly put the rotten finishing touches on this monster.

Title track ‘The Decaying Light’ opens with a feeling of a technical beast and the choppy guitars continue to hack away at you as the relentless drums shake you to the core, creating a horrifying and disturbingly brilliant sound that we know and love from this incredible band.

The Decaying Lightspans some 13 brutal tracks that beat you for a solid 45 minutes, before you feel a need to push play again and take the beating again. If you weren’t before you will soon realise that this uncomfortable sounding album that has knocked you from pillar to post has somehow caused Stockholm Syndrome and you love it more and more with each listen.

This slab of brutality is as fine an offering as you will hear this year and will only further the bands impressive following as they forge their way to the forefront of everyone’s mind, taking no prisoners as they steamroll the competition and create a contender for Album Of The Year.
