When writing a review of an album you often what it is that the music fan really wants to know.. do they really want an in-depth track by track analysis or do they just want to know whether or not they should take a punt and buy the LP? Well, there’s no doubt in this reviewer’s mind that if you are a fan of well written, well-produced quality music then this is definitely the LP for you.

Tyketto singer Danny Vaughn describes this, his first solo album in 11 years, as the one he has always wanted to record, featuring “a bunch of songs I call my orphans: they’re a group of numbers, collected over decades, that I never found a proper home for”. The title suggests, it is also an album influenced by his lifelong love of storytelling, something he traces back to the bedtime stories read to him by his parents – the tales of Greek mythology, of ‘The Lord Of The Rings’, the antics of the Monkey King, Sherlock Holmes and more, all drawn together in this collection that has been a decade and a half in the making…

Anyone who has followed Danny in his many guises as a troubadour will know that this record nearly fell at the first hurdle thanks to a total lack support from the pledge music company. It could have put him hundreds of thousands of dollars in debt .., however, he has bounced back … entered the studio with some of his favourite musicians and record what can only be described as a stunner of an LP.

You can expect to hear the influences of all his musical backgrounds, country, folk, soul, blues and rock. 14 tracks of outstanding quality from the Irish/Country opener ‘The Shadow Of King John’ to the blues /southern rock “Monkey’s With Money and Guns” and the folk swing of the epic “Seven Bells”. Each is song is a tale told by a man who is definitely not an idiot and signifying everything. (to misquote the greatest band of all time)

Danny has certainly poured his heart an soul into making the LP he has always wanted to and whilst some may say this is a tad ambitious .. I am inclined to say it delivers on so many levels so what. Sit back .. grab a beer and enjoy the ride.
