CREYE // II // ALBUM REVIEW
Creye was started in 2015 by Andreas Gullstrand. His vision was to start a new Swedish pop/rock sensation that would take listeners on a journey back to the glory days of the eighties, both musically and visually. After spending nearly two months experimenting with the sound of the band, Andreas settled on what could best be described as a slick melodic rock sound with a touch of 80’s retro in the mix. The debut LP was released to critical acclaim and saw them touring and flying the flag for melodic rock across Europe.
Opening song “Broken Highway” not only sets the scene for what is a huge melodic rock sound but also showcases the outstanding songwriting. These boys know how to write a great tune. There is no doubt that they are influenced by the great AOR writers of the ’80s.
Saying that the music sounds fresh and has just enough edge to keep the listener engaged throughout the whole LP.
As the LP progresses we hear a band that has honed their skills and feels just that little bit more mature than their first LP. That’s a good thing right? Take the keyboard-driven “Siberia” or the stadium rocker “Closer” (bound to be a live crowd-pleaser) they scream melodic rock at its finest.
Some will say that this is only the beginning and that the band have a ways to go to achieve their goals, however, if you are looking for a great melodic rock listen that will have you nodding along from start to finish, then look no further. Creye II is a great LP.
