Buried // Oculus Rot // Album Review

Straight out of the gate, Buried are showing they can stand on their own 2 feet with this brilliant release of Oculus Rot.
Hailing from the Netherlands & comprising ex-members of PYAEMIA, Buried are death metal at its purest.
“Oculus Rot” is a relenting force of old & new. Mixing the sounds of Suffocation, Revocation and Decapitated; all influences that the band stated inspired them to create the Buried sound.
Comprising 9 tracks, using odd time signatures, headbanging riffs & some harrowing vocal patterns, this is one of the newest albums of 2021 that will cement Buried as one of the bands to keep a firm eye on!
Tracks like “Tornado of Blood” and the title track “Oculus Rot” are pure barrages of sonic brutality. Technical guitar work, constant blasting drums & vocals that are putrid in nature makes these tracks stand out from the rest.
It’s hard to pinpoint what makes this album good. Buried are great musicians for sure, but what makes the album so enjoyable is the constant change. It must have taken a long time to write some of these riffs & drum patterns. The effort pays off & you can really hear it in the album as a whole.
The only thing I will say is that this album isn’t for the light-hearted. If you are a long time listener of the death metal genre, then you will love this. If you are new to the scene this may be a little too fast-paced. But if you give it the time it deserves, you will enjoy it as much as I did.
I can’t wait to see what Buried does in the future if their debut is this strong.
