BULL // Discover Effortless Living // Album Review
Formed in 2011 by vocalist and songwriter Tom Beer and guitarist Dan Lucas, Bull’s mission is simply to make the music they wanted to listen to, what you get is a melodic collection of easy on the ear, free-flowing tracks that just carry you on a whimsical journey across the album.
As if removed from the chaos that was 2020 and 2021 or 2020 v2.0 as I call it, Bull has produced an album far, far removed from anything that resembles the dystopian world we now find ourselves living in. Instead, you have jolly, effortless melodies that distract you from the endless cries of the third wave, fourth wave and summer holidays? So if you are badly craving a release and an escape, this is your album.
The album may one big ass continuous hug but it does not lack the verve or energy to bring back the smell of decomposing teenagers in packed out venues and the magic that the live environment brings and the “je ne sais quoi” we all so badly need and miss. Tracks like ‘Eddie’s Cap” is a real banger that wakes you up from your slumber and reminds you not to fall int the false sense of security that “Discover Effortless Living” may imply. It may have a laid back vibe but it does carry a bite.
All in all, you get what it says on the tin, Bull have their very own unique take on their musical signature and you’ll either fully embrace it or run for the hills. The guys have taken the brave step to produce an album true to their values and not be swayed by “The Man”!
So embrace 2021, embrace the “New Normal” and grab yourself a handful of some Bull.
“Discover Effortless Living” is released this coming Friday, March 26th via EMI Records.
