Critically acclaimed German band Blackout Problems have released their powerful new single ‘MURDERER’ along with a vivid and at times disturbing video. It’s a striking introduction to their new music, leading the way for a full album coming early next year via Sony Music/Music For Nations.
‘MURDERER’ is an emotionally-charged anthem reflecting the band’s response to some of the alarming headlines of recent years, including the resurgence of right-wing forces and the worldwide triumph of populism.
Writing a politically-charged song called ‘MURDERER’ but ending with the words “L.O.V.E for everybody”, clearly demonstrates a band aware of certain circumstances. It shows both an understanding that political activism and criticism of the system is necessary to protect human lives, but also that the world shares universal feelings of anger, confusion and compassion.
Anger is a transformative emotion and on ‘MURDERER’ it is fuelled by resentment about the state of our modern society which seems incapable – despite all the warnings that history and science have shown us – of creating a peaceful and sustainable place to exist. But the message of compassion it builds towards over its unique musical progression, evolving from a single voice of rage to a full-band chorus of hope, is that L.O.V.E for everybody is what the world needs now more than ever.
The song is bought to life with an equally provocative video. The film opens with the Martin Luther King, Jr quote, “Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that” and moves through a series of dark and daring scenes, which challenge and excite the viewer in equal measure.
‘MURDERER’ is the first single from the forthcoming album DARK which will be released early next year. This is the band’s third full-length album following Holy (2016) and KAOS (2018), which they independently released on their own Munich Warehouse label, having turned down major label overtures to retain full creative control. Nevertheless, the band roared into the official German album charts and saw their online presence and worldwide fan-base skyrocket.
Blackout Problems have toured extensively across the globe, playing at festivals including The Great Escape, Rock am Ring and Rock Im Ring and last year they completed a forty-date European tour as support act to Royal Republic, followed by their first headline international tour with performances in England, France, Holland, Czech Republic, Hungary, Austria and Switzerland.
Blackout Problems in 2020 show an exciting evolution from their earlier days. Now signed to Sony Music worldwide and partnering with legendary label Music For Nations in the UK, they stand poised for international success. Their new music captures the weltschmerz of a generation and gives a voice to those who are willing to stand up for love, respect and social justice.
