BAD OMENS // ‘THE DEATH OF PEACE OF MIND’ // ALBUM REVIEW

8

Bad Omens have been a consistent name around the Metalcore scene since their formation back in 2015. With two prior albums, each more loved by fans than the last and throwing on the massive range of Live Shows and festivals they’ve appeared at, it’s really not a surprise that the band is now back with THE DEATH OF PIECE OF MIND, their third studio album. The first track I want to discuss is the title track THE DEATH OF PEACE OF MIND, an ambient electronic opening with softly sung lyrics create an intense atmosphere that manages to not only be incredibly heavy instrumentally thanks to the slow introduction of guitars playing a crushing riff, but filthy breakdown brings the track full circle.

The next track to mention is the groove infected Like A Villain.  Featuring one of my favorite vocal performances of the release alongside having a heavy influence from Nu-Metal with the chunky riffs that flood the soundscape of the track. The third track I want to mention is The Grey is a lyrically heavy, electronic-focused track that has an utterly phenomenal flow that perfectly reflects the lyrics being sung, plus an utterly insane Post-Chorus bridge that wouldn’t leave my head.

Moving along, we have What do you want from me? A track that feels inspired by the Cyberpunk 2077 soundtrack with elements of Mick Gordon within the electronic and guitar blend while being reminiscent of Trance music too. The final track I want to talk about is ARTIFICIAL SUICIDE, a chunky assault of riffs and gutturals that fill the soundscape before bringing the Mick Gordon elements back stronger thanks to the inclusion of experimental ambient electronic breaks too.

THE DEATH OF PEACE OF MIND is an example of a band evolving at a natural pace to find their own place within an insanely oversaturated genre. From crushing heaviness to ambient moments of tranquillity, Bad Omens have created a phenomenal album here that is fresh enough to stand out against the rest of their genre while still being familiar enough to be easily accessible.
