On Thursday, January 7th, Japan issued a state of emergency and all measures were called to prevent further outbreak of the coronavirus. Following all strict guidelines enforced by the country and by the Tokyo Metropolitan Government, each performance was carefully monitored to follow all preventative measures: each performance ended by 8:00pm, “Savior Masks” (face masks) were distributed to all fans who came to the show and were to be worn on top of the mask each fan originally had on, etc.
It had been 7 years since BABYMETAL last headlined at the Nippon Budokan. At that time, BABYMETAL had broken the record for youngest female artist in history to headline at the prestigious Japanese venue. It had been approximately a year since they last performed in Japan at Makuhari Messe over a total of 2 days.
The setlist for the final performance “DOOMSDAY – X” featured a total of 13 songs focused on their best album 10 BABYMETAL YEARS which was released in December 2020. The production fully utilized the unique layout of the 360-degree venue with the stage set in the center of the venue, allowing fans to enjoy the performance from any seat.
After the 10th and final performance, BABYMETAL announced that they will be having a world premiere of the online version of 10 BABYMETAL BUDOKAN <DOOMSDAY – I to X> which will feature special edits of their footages from the 10 performances they successfully finished at the Budokan. The world premiere will stream on Saturday, June 26th at 9:00pm JST.
