What’s the Catch? – Single out now

“Hemina should be a household name when it comes to discussing the Progressive Metal giants in the genre today.”
– Metal Temple, 5/5

“It is the complete package: an anomaly in the sometimes stale world of progressive metal.  Hemina know how to mix things around a bit and how to transition breathlessly from hefty portions to quiet pastoral musings.”
– The Prog Mind, 9.5/10

“Australia is home base to many highly talented/innovative progressive groups, and you can surely add Hemina to that impressive list.
– Sea of Tranquility, 4.5/5

Now entering the final moments before the release of their fourth studio album ‘Night Echoes’, Australian prog quartet Hemina have released the third video single from their upcoming full-length, which due for release worldwide on 9th August.

Following the previous single release of ‘We Will’ and ‘Flicker’, ‘What’s the Catch?’ captures another bright, progressive anthem rife with fun and impressive guitar and vocal melodies, further marking Hemina’s upcoming album as a must-have for progressive music fans in need of a varied musical palette. The single premiered on Prog Magazine’s website.

As detailed by the band, ‘What’s the Catch?’ is an unashamedly romantic song about the intensity of an all-convincing love, and the risk/reward balance that comes with pursuing such a love. Regarding the significance of this single within ‘Night Echoes’ concept arc, the protagonist is at this stage in his adolescence, experiencing a connection that is amplified by a time in which emotion and thought are at their most sensitive and overwhelming.

“Listening to ‘What’s the Catch?’ in its finished state is really emotional for me now,”comments band vocalist and multi-instrumentalist Douglas Skene. “I am proud of its directness, as it’s something not always seen in Prog music. Stemming from the early 70s in what was largely an insular English movement, there wasn’t a lot of room for outpourings of affection over complicated chords and time changes. I am glad that with ‘What’s The Catch’, we have been able to capture such a powerful emotional state that we, as humans, have all felt.”

Tugging at more modern threads of inspiration, Skene continues; “I remember listening to a lot of J Rock and a tonne of Enter Shikari and Bring Me the Horizon in the last couple of years. I was always enchanted and taken aback by their ability to connect these basic states of intimacy set to beautiful musical textures that could connect with everyone. There’s a fair bit going on in ‘What’s The Catch?’ and it’s quite progressive in ways, but at the core of it lies something that I hope everyone can relate to.”

Hemina’s fourth studio release will provide the latest instalment in an extensive, episodic concept arc that has unravelled across the band’s previous studio albums; Synthetic (2011), Nebulae (2014) and Venus (2016). Reintroducing the son born to the protagonist of ‘Synthetic’, ‘Night Echoes’ follows the son’s journey approximately 10 years after his father’s suicide. Within the tale, the central character of ‘Night Echoes’ follows a path filled with the same emotional footfalls as his deceased father, struggling to uphold a life void of his father’s presence.

You can purchase and stream Hemina’s previous studio albums via iTunes and Spotify. ‘Night Echoes’ is available to pre-order now on BandCamp.

Hemina are a 4 piece Progressive Metal band from Sydney, Australia. The band’s sound has been described as a unique combination of hard hitting syncopated grooves, lush synth backwashes, multi-part vocal harmonies, blistering memorable leads with a focus on songwriting and emotion.

The band have supported international bands Uriah Heep, Kamelot, Apocalyptica, Queensryche and are opening for Haken on the Sydney leg of their Vector world tour. They have shared the stage with Aussie legends Caligula’s Horse, Chaos Divine, Voyager, Twelve Foot Ninja, Divine Ascension, Breaking Orbit among many others and simply live for the stage.

Hemina’s first three albums ‘Synthetic’, ‘Nebulae’ and ‘Venus’ were met with critical acclaim traversing many different sides of the band’s sonic spectrum from the complex and dark, to the immediate and uplifting. The release of ‘Venus’ saw Hemina taking their music overseas culminating in performances at Progpower Europe (Netherlands) and Euroblast (Germany).

The band’s fourth album ‘Night Echoes’ is their most collaborative work to date, offering the eclectic flavours of what fans have come to expect in the past as well as a new palette and range of emotional expression never before heard from the group. ‘Night Echoes’ is Hemina at their most emotional and melodic without ignoring the aggressive and venomous side that keeps the music in balance. With a powerful modern production and mix crafted by Skene at Ploughman Studios with audiophile mastering from Ermin Hamidovic at Systematic Productions (Periphery, Devin Townsend, Plini, Architects) – their upcoming studio album shows Hemina at their best yet.
