There’s always a risk when selecting to review an album that you have already pre-ordered, will it live up to expectations or do you rush to cancel the order before it’s too late, however when Endarkenment was there, teasing me, it just had to be done.

The duo that makes up Anaal Nathrakh have been releasing extreme music for over 20 years and with this, their 11th album and the follow up to the 2018 release A New Kind Of Horror having the vocals recorded in an industrial estate in Birmingham in a unit down the hall from where an S&M porn film was being recorded and the artwork having the image of a pig with penises for eyes, you know that this is going to be dark and twisted but very memorable.

As the album begins, the glorious noise that Anaal Nathrakh is known for begins its bludgeoning assault on all your senses as this unique type of extreme music erupts into life, in the way only an Anaal Nathrakh can do, if you have not heard anything by them before, you certainly will not forget your first experience in this incredible world.

The combination of samples, beats, and riffs are blended up into such a fucked up blend that many will not understand or appreciate how this can calm the mind of some, however, the earworms that are created infiltrate the nervous system and talk to your very being. As the noise takes over the calming melodies help your brain relax and open a whole new world of possibilities whilst the construction of the tracks allows the sound to enjoy as a whole but also picking out each individual contribution allowing the album to enjoyed repeatedly and with each spin, a further aspect is recognized and its contribution to the outcome is enjoyed to the fullest.

The chaos that is recorded is a soundtrack to the modern fuck up that this world has become as the incredible energy is unleashed over the soundwaves and horrifying realities are faced. The intensity and quality of this extreme music is undeniable and will blow away the most hardened of fans as this incredible collection of standout tracks make up one of the most stunning Extreme albums of 2020.

There is no way that I will be looking to cancel this pre-order, in fact I am even more excited to put the record on the turntable and spin Endarkenment over and over again.
