Following the 2016 release Mechanisms Of Omniscience, the four-piece from Marlborough, Massachusetts have returned to continue the assault on the musical world with their blend of Extreme Technical Death Metal that firmly fits in the Brutal bracket. Having toured with the heavyweights such as Suffocation, Napalm Death, The Black Dahlia Murder, Pig Destroyer and Misery Index since the last release inflating the bands stock massively so to continue their impressive trajectory Sociopathic Constructs could be the most important release the band have produced so far.

Opening stating that the band have mixed things up a bit and experimented with styles and approaches, the first thing that will hit you when you press play is the brutality and intensity that they have managed to capture perfectly. The growling vocals, chunky riffs and bass notes all take the fore, all whilst maintaining that Tech Death feel. The varying pace throughout the opener ‘Monarch Alpha’ sets up the album beautifully and violently and tracks such as ‘Transmogrification Of The Echoborgs’ begin with the slower element, allowing a darker and more sadistic feel before that unapologetic battering resumes to assault the whole body.

The Technical aspect isn’t always at the forefront of the tracks in this album, however, the discreet Tech undercurrent is fantastic as it catches you and makes you focus on it when you hear it, and when you heard it, it is a joyous moment. This is a complex and intelligently put together an album that gets better with each listen. Each spin reveals another level of instrument craft and vocal mastering.

There is an Old School Death feeling to tracks such as ‘Dying Breed’ and ‘Curb Stomp’ brings the album to a wincing end as the Grind laden, Brutal Tech continues to batter you like being hit with a slab of concrete. This is a solid and impressive offering by Abnormality and the freedom that the band have had to create exactly what they want has certainly paid off as this blunt weapon of an album will definitely cause some damage and allow the band to press forward with their upward momentum.
