Lande Hekt today releases a brand new 7”, led by her deliciously bittersweet latest composition ‘Romantic’. “It’s a song about struggling to fit in, feeling down and finding comfort in romance,” says Lande of the song’s inspiration and intent. “Connecting with someone because you both feel like you don’t belong.” ‘Romantic’ embodies Lande’s open-diary style of songwriting and is backed by a cover of one of her profound influences – The Wedding Present song ‘Octopussy’ from their 1991 album ‘Seamonsters’. David Gedge himself said about the cover “Thanks… nice. Always interesting to hear different interpretations!” Lande Hekt’s debut album ‘Going to Hell’ was released in 2021 via queer and trans-run label Get Better Records and gained accolades such as Stereogum Album of the Week, Bandcamp Album of the Day, and The AV Club’s ‘Albums we can’t wait to hear’. DIY Magazine called it “A celebration of personal freedom,” as the album documents Lande’s experience coming out as gay. Its introspective, journal-style lyrics, political themes and catchy, guitar-driven indie rock has been earning Lande a following across the globe. Lande has played events for The Big Issue and the Labour Party amongst numerous solo gigs, touring the globe with artists like Kevin Devine and Ben David, as well as supporting the legend that is Tricky. Lande will be playing a pair of Rough Trade shows next week, as well as a tour supporting The Menzingers’ Gregor Barnett in June and 2000 Trees Festival in July. She’ll then be heading out on tour with Laura Jane Grace across Canada in September. LANDE HEKT LIVE:
