One of the most iconic bands in rock is back with their first new studio album in a decade, of course, we are talking about the one, the only Journey.
A band with the most fantastic story, some of the most iconic vocalists in the business and a catalogue of songs that are both genre-defying and age-defying! Regardless if you are an established AOR fan or a newbie to the rock genre, you will already know Journey’s music and their wide-ranging back catalogue will already be embedded deep in your brain.
So after a long ten years, miles upon miles on the road and a global pandemic Journey have returned with their signature sound with fifteen tracks to add to that stunning repertoire. What can you say really but thank god they have, it was just way too long to live without fresh music from such a majestic band. Each and every track just screams Journey! From the album opener ‘Together We Run’ through to the closer ‘Beautiful As You Are’ you are transported back into that comfort blanket that is Journey through and through, the sublime vocals of Arnel Pineda fronting the blistering guitar work of Neil Schon and that infamous backline of Jonathan Cain on keys and Randy Jackson on Bass, with Jason Deralta laying down backing vocals and the one and only Dean Castronovo providing lead vocals on ‘After Glow’ and the ear reliable Narada Michael Walden on drums you are treated to musical royalty.
The guys have pulled out all the stops for this one, pulling on the heartstrings as always, be it through emotive songwriting or just through that signature sound that brings you right back to time and places Journey first caught your eye, resonated and stayed with you for a lifetime. So much is Mae these days of the longer established bands over staying their welcome, and yes it is mostly clickbait to agitate fans into dialogue but nobody can claim that Journey is on that list. What these guys still possess in their arsenal is nothing short of magical, Freedom is a fine piece of work, capturing all that magic that made Journey a household name whilst keeping it contemporary enough to resonate with a new audience and beyond.
Glorious from start to finish this is one Journey you’ll want to get on board.
