JOIN THE BATTLE FOR MENTAL HEALTH WITH HEART SUPPORT 01/12/2017 3 JOIN THE BATTLE FOR MENTAL HEALTH WITH HEART SUPPORT! SHORT MOVIE – “LOVE, MAGGIE” – IS NOW OUT! n case this is the first time you are hearing from me – my name is Hristo, as I’m the owner and founder of UAC Management. I’m here to proudly represent Heart Support – an award-winning non-profitable organization (2016 Non-Profit Of The Year, 2016 Artist Philanthropic Award at the Alternative Press Awards, and also named as one of the top 100 socially innovative non-profits in the world at the Classy Awards) that directly intersects the space between mental health and the music community (specifically metal, alternative, and hardcore) and founded by Jake Luhrs of the Grammy nominated metal act August Burns Red. Heart Support is an establishment aiming to provide every music fan who is struggling through addiction, depression, and suicide ideation to find hope by uniting the best bands in the industry and fans alike to carry a message of hope, healing, and restoration, which results in an amazing community developed by like-minded people that are working towards creating a positive impact to the world. Today, 28th November, is Giving Tuesday (the Tuesday after Thanksgiving in the United States). Representing a movement that was created to combat the commercialization and consumerism in the post-Thanksgiving season people can get wrapped up in (Black Friday and Cyber Monday), Giving Tuesday since become an international day of giving meant to support your favorite movements and charities. Having said that, the absolutely fantastic organization that Heart Support is would like to utilize the concept behind Giving Tuesday and use the platform offered by this day to bring more awareness to its main mission – encouraging the process of drastically increasing the importance that mental health has in this day and age and spreading it to the massive audience. With a rampant rise in mental health issues across the globe ranging from suicide, self-harm, and depression to even the shootings and violence we’ve seen, we need as many people as possible in the fight for mental health. According to Psychology Today, “the average high school kid today has the same level of anxiety as the average psychiatric patient in the early 1950s.” 61 percent of college students surveyed in 2014 reported overwhelming anxiety within the last year and 35.5 percent said they “felt so depressed that it was difficult to function.” 1 in 4 men in the UK are turning to self-harm, and suicide remains the second largest cause of death among men and women ranging 15-24 With the goal to bring awareness to the mental health struggles that more people than we can imagine experience on a daily basis, Heart Support releases “Love, Maggie” – a cinematic and moving short movie that represents a fascinating project aiming to showcase the emotional difficulties that an alarming amount of people experience every day. Because Maggie is the girl you know in your college classes or at your high school. She’s the girl who made your coffee this morning. She’s the checker at the supermarket. She’s your friend, daughter, sister or neighbor. Every day is a struggle. Every night is an endless argument with her thoughts. But the good news is that Maggie doesn’t need to be alone. So we ask you to give us the chance to help Maggie. Because even though her character is fiction, her story is not.
