Andrew Cushin keeps on going from strength-to-strength. After collaborating with Noel Gallagher on the single ‘Where’s My Family Gone’Andrew then picked up the support of another iconic rock ‘n’ roller when Pete Doherty signed him to his Strap Originals label.

Today sees Andrew achieve a fresh landmark in his career as he releases his debut EP ‘You Don’t Belong’, along with a video for its closing track ‘Runaway’. Listen to the EP HERE. Watch the video HERE.

The ‘You Don’t Belong’ EP represents an exciting new evolution for the 22-year-old Geordie. Its recent singles ‘Catch Me If You Can’ and ‘You Don’t Belong’ have seen him adding swaggering indie rock and a blustering, bluesy tone to take his introspective singer-songwriting into an anthemic, pints-in-the-air space. But while his music bristles with a new-found energy and bite, there has been no watering down of his poignant, reflective and storytelling lyricism. The EP was written by Andrew, produced by Jason Stafford, and was recorded at The Albion RoomsThe Libertines’ studio in Margate.

Andrew says, With Runaway I wanted to challenge myself, I became influenced by the story of Noel Gallagher writing supersonic.. Oasis needed a single and he wrote one in 10 minutes. I purposely left a space free on the EP and said to myself what ever song I write today, that’s what we’re using. The song was Runaway, it’s great!”

The new focus track ‘Runaway’ is the EP’s only more restrained moment. Mournful acoustic guitars and melancholy piano set the tone before subtle, mood-setting synths add a fresh majesty to the track. All heartfelt intensity and rugged soul, Andrew’s voice narrates a story that’s sadly prevalent throughout the UK today: a tale of someone disconnected from life and society at large, and stuck in a repeated loop of self-destructive behaviour.

The accompanying video for ‘Runaway’ was filmed on Tynemouth Beach near Newcastle, and sees Andrew channelling the song’s meaning into his impassioned performance. Between the beautiful desolation of the location and director Andy Willsher’s elegantly stark photography, it’s a visual which swells the song’s poignant feel.

The ‘You Don’t Belong’ EP is completed by a second new song, ‘Yeah Yeah Yeah’, a rush of rock classicism and spiky punk spirit that features Andrew’s most potent guitar work to date. The EP has already boosted Andrew’s profile, with a significant rise in streaming and social stats, airplay at BBC Introducing and Amazing Radio, and session for Sky TV’s new music show ‘Spill The Sound’.

There will be no missing Andrew Cushin in the months ahead as his touring schedule continues to grow. In addition to shows with Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds and The Sherlocks, he will also play a selection of festivals ahead of his biggest headline tour to date in October. The tour culminates with two shows at Newcastle’s new NX venue (relaunched and rebranded from its previous O2 Academy name) which will see Andrew become the youngest ever Geordie to headline his hometown venue.
