Australian Pop Punk rockers Trophy Eyes are back with their third album The American Dream. Sinceformingbackin2014theyhaveseentheirpreviousalbumshitthetop10in the charts in Australia. They are part of the ever growing movement coming from their home country and there’s a good reason why.
The American Dream i s less of the fast paced Pop Punk sound but is much more melodic in its sound. The band has a much more pop sound throughout much of the album but is backed by a heavier sound through their guitars and the occasionally heavy vocals. While being a lighter sound across many of the tracks they still hit some relevant issues in today’s world. “You Can Count On Me” is one of these tracks which hits the topics of guns and drugs but is primarily about live in the band and how it can affect people as well as how music reaches people. It’s a very layered track that when you listen to the lyrics has more depth than first meets the eye. This shows a band who has a very clever way of writing their music and takes on the punk genre in a more sophisticated manner. That is not to say that their music is not fun as well which is usually expected from this genre. With lyrics such as “Don’t You Wish it Was Friday Forever/ Don’t you Miss Getting Day Drunk” they still hold the values of this theme.
The American Dream i s a complex album while still being easy to listen to. It’s easy to see why this band has seen success and is no doubt about to hit higher heights with this latest venture.
