Shining are now a more accessible band, having shaken off any remnants of their history to go in a completely new direction, which includes electro-pop influences as they provide us with 10 songs of Party Rock. The album is filled with tracks that are radio ready and will undoubtably gain them some huge airplay and new fans as they take the turn toward Party Rock whilst still retaining some heavy riffs and the occasional gravelly vocal. Shining now have anthemic sounding tracks where it is easy to imagine the crowd jumping in unison. Album title track ‘Animal’ is the prime example of this as the riffs and electro combine to create huge sounding tracks that will get the party started and everyone moving, swiftly followed by ‘Church’ which continues the Party Rock with huge sing along songs, that have a tinge of angst whilst being fun sounding. ‘Smash It Up’ is more Rock based is quicker, guitar lead track which will please those who prefer a lack of fusion with the Electro-pop styles however the styles soon combine again with the following track ‘When I’m Gone’ The sound of the album is such a shift from what we are used to with Shining that in many ways approaching this new sound as a new band may be the best way to give it a fair chance, because when you get passed that initial confusion, its pretty good. The guitars are there, they are heavy, they are fun and they are the basis for some Party Rock bangers. Ed Ford Animal is released October 19th 2018 via Spinefarm Records.
