Mollie Marriott – ‘Truth Is a Wolf’ – Album Review 20/10/2017 68 Mollie Marriott ‘Truth Is a Wolf’ Album Review Mollie Marriott Strong, sexy and ready to rock is rising super star Mollie Marriott. “I’m really excited about the album. It features a lot of different styles and I think it really showcases my vocals.” Famously referred to as “the daughter of Steve Marriott” (The Small Faces, Humble Pie), there is no mistaking that Mollie carries some amazing vocal cords, but she is Mollie and she’s successful on her own merit. As an independent and seriously soulful artist, there becomes no need for the tireless references to her connections, as Truth Is a Wolf can speak for itself with its captivating vocals and warm charm. “I want people to listen to me as Mollie, Mollie Marriott; not ‘Mollie Marriott daughter of Steve Marriott’ – that was not the name on my birth certificate.” Accompanied by a sensual music video embellished in leather fringing and candlelight, lead single and track one on the album is ‘Control.’ This is a great choice to open the album, as the powerful opening vocals and catchy chorus provide a refreshing and attention-grabbing tune to start the record. “Control is all about taking back control of my music. It was important, so this was the right single to start with.” ‘Broken’ takes a softer, more mellow tone featuring passionate heartfelt lyrics that open up a door into the private life of Mollie Marriott. “This is the one song I wish I didn’t know how to write.” Every mother’s nightmare is the feeling of failing their child in one way or another, and ‘Broken’ is written as an apology to Marriott’s daughter when she split up with her fiancé. The truth is Mollie is far from a failure, having written a beautiful track that her daughter will be so proud to say was written by her mother. Track seven is ‘Transformer’ which takes a moodier tone and lyrically a song many people can connect with. Mollie wrote this about how she wasn’t able to be herself in a former relationship. “It’s my favourite to sing as it’s a constant reminder to just be me and the right person will accept it.” The final track on the album is ‘My Heaven Can Wait.’ This speaks for a lot of creatives who occupy the only window in the street with its light on at 3:00 am. There is a focus here on rising musicians, who are trying to make their passion their sole income, but everything keeps going wrong and it feels like you might never make it. “This song is about how everyone kept telling me to get up and sort myself out, but I wasn’t ready to just yet. I wrote it with Jim, who let me crash. He said once I couldn’t get lower, the only way is back up. Musically we have the harmonica drone from Ben which I think brings that dark/eerie element with a twist, and I love that. I wanted the background vocals to sound haunting like the ghosts of my past.” Releasing via Amadeus Music on 3rd November, Truth Is a Wolf is currently available for pre-order at www.molliemarriott.com as limited edition red vinyl, deluxe and standard CD. The deluxe version features two bonus tracks, ‘Armour’ and ‘Gravity.’ Review By Cerys Keen TRACK LIST – MOLLIE MARRIOTT TRUTH IS A WOLF – DELUXE EDITION ‘Control’ ‘Broken’ ‘Truth Is a Wolf’ ‘Give Me a Reason’ ‘Run With the Hounds’ ‘Love Your Bones’ ‘Transformer’ ‘Fortunate Fate’ ‘King of Hearts’ ‘My Heaven Can Wait’ BONUS TRACKS* ‘Armour’ ‘Gravity’ *Standard Edition CD features tracks 1-10 Taking influence from powerful rock and rolling women such as Sheryl Crow, Stevie Nicks and Alanis Morissette, Mollie’s sound is a classic Rock, Soul and Blues fusion which has brought her to share stages with Paul Weller, Ronnie Wood, Mick Hucknall and Robert Plant to name a few.
