Messer was formed in 2009 and it has taken a long road to get to here. The Texan five piece have gone down the tradition road of travelling from bar to stadium and everything in between supporting big bands and it culminates in this fine debut offering.
With a blend of Hard Rock and Blues it gives a new twist to an old formula and they really nail it, eleven tracks of pure unadulterated Rock. ‘Throw It All Away’ gets proceeding under way and it’s a belter, fast out of the blocks with a serious punch, setting things up nicely. With a title like ‘Everything Is Beautiful’ you would expect a ballady type song but this is the farthest thing from it. A hint of Hellyeah in the lyrics but an all-round excellent song with crashing drums, relentless bass with a tasty riff to top it all off. ‘Fight Of My Life’ has real anthemic feel to it and it rocks big time, you’ll be banging your head and stomping your feet to it right from the off, one of the best on here.
‘Still Better Off’ will worm its way into your brain and have you humming it all day long. ‘Lay Down Your Heart’ slows things down a little but not too much. ‘Simple Man’ is the real stand out on the album, a true rocker big, brash, loud and just brilliant. “One More Time” is a nice way to slow things down to ease you in the madness of ‘Whiskey’ which much like ‘Simple Man’ is an absolute belter and a great way to finish things up, it has a very Y&T style to it and that just adds to the appeal of this whole album, new music with an old feeling that will have you harking back to the heady days of the late 80’s early 90’s.
Messer is out April 20th via Maddpants Records and it is not to be missed.
