Swedish five piece Letters From The Colony bring their debut album Vignette and what a way to announce your arrival.

The 9 track, 56 minute release opens with ‘Galax’ which is a Technical and Progressive Death Metal masterclass. It is is an 8 minute mind blowing welcome to this band, with the ever evolving beat and music constantly keeping you on your toes, it’s hard to know where they are going next, including a section that is almost Easy Listening. Do not relax too long though, it is merely a pause before the organised chaos continues.

The album continues in this light apart from ‘This Creature Will Haunt Us Forever’ which is a musical interlude before the unpredictability resumes on this crushing album.

Each track is very much its own, many of them have at least one section of Jazz or Easy Listening to them, which allows you to catch your breath before this monster continues.

Vignette is a genre smashing powerhouse of Progressive, Technical Death Metal that is extremely complex and very impressive with its every changing structure, sounds and aggressive vocals that many established bands would wish to recreate.

This was a very rewarding record to repeatedly listen to, each time hearing new layers, sounds and effects.
