Wowzer! Is what runs through my head as soon as the opening few beats of ‘Funky Queen’ blasts through my earphones.  A huge opener to what is a blistering EP by the Belgian powerhouse quartet. Mammoth in every sense of the word, the Black Mirrors cannot be ignored! Colossal grooves and sumptuous vocals surround you in this searing short – lived EP.

‘Funky Queen’ is the delicious opening track, with an appetizing hook it transfers to a thumping rhythm with awe-inspiring vocals by Marcella Di Troia.  This is just a glorious tune, full of spunk & verve guiding you through the murky waters ahead. ‘Kick Out The Jam’ pulls you up off your ass with its hard hitting fast paced rhythm, monstrous bass thumping and frantic drum patterns, there is no respite here.

‘The Mess’ slows the tempo down, but not the intensity. Full force pedal to the metal, balls out and in your face the Black Mirrors march on, its all or nothing, they lure you into a false sense of security as a change of tempo takes place midway through, bluesy grinding licks and sexy drum patterns keep you focused before the finale.

Finishing of with ‘Canard Vengeur Masqué’ and you’re left gasping for breath. Not for the faint hearted, the Black Mirrors have left us with a 4 track gargantuan EP that will resonate for years to come. A glorious collection of songs that’s just the short, sharp, shock to get your attention and all perfectly delivered by this majestic group.

Take a bow people.
