MISTHERIA Q&A
Mistheria
is my solo project which started in 1996. I collaborate with musicians from all over the world, some of them are constantly part of my albums, some are new musicians I get in touch with during my studio sessions or live shows. “Mistheria” It’s basically a fantasy name inspired to the “mystery”.

Why did you form?
I started my solo career and project in 1996 when I created a live show which named “Metamorphosis” which included several form of arts such as music, dance, poetry, 3D graphics.
How did the idea come to be?
I have passion for classical, metal and soundtrack music. I started to compose my songs combining more or less those genres and afterward I wanted to bring my music on stage. The next step was, obviously, to collect some of those songs in an album.
How would you describe your sound in five words?
Intense, passionate, impetuous, energetic, intimate.
Your upcoming album? How do think it should be received by fans?
“Gemini” is my new instrumental metal album. My fans have been waiting for it for a long time and this created a lot of excitement and fervor!
What kind of listening experience are trying to give fans with this single and new music to come?
Beside by classical/new-age albums and althgouh I’ve already performed some of the featured songs, “Gemini” is my first instrumental metal album which collects thirteen songs composed and/or arranged along my career. I new “point of view” for my fans which can discover what my “keys” can tell to them without lyrics.
How is the writing process for the band?
I compose and arrange all the songs. In case of a vocal album, often I give the pen to the singers, I write some lyrics as well. During the recordings I always love to listen what my amazing musicians can bring according to the basic arrangement I’ve created and demoed. I love when musicians “feel” the music and give their own “trademark” to the songs.
Are any of the band members known on the local scene from any other bands?
The musicians I collaborate with are usually very known in the music scene, in “Gemini” are featured top-class artists! Sometime I like to discover new talents too.
How did you decide on the tracks for this album? How much more music can fans expect?
The tracks in “Gemini” are a combination of my original songs and classical covers and a blend of them. I have new albums in the making already, new music is always on my way…
What can people expect live from your band compared to other bands?
Energy and passion! The stage must be on fire, I give all myself and more to make the shows a unique exciting experience for the audience.
How would you describe the evolution of the band’s sound?
From very prog-oriented at the beginning to metal and symphonic-metal in the last few years.
Name the Top 5 band influences of the band. What metal genres influence you as a band the most?
Deep Purple, Symphony X, Y. Malmsteen, J. S. Bach, A. Vivaldi. My main genres as composer and performer are Classical, Metal, Prog-Metal, Symphonic-Metal, Soundtrack music.
What’s the meaning behind the album and some of the songs.
I wanted to showcase all my instrumental metal songs that, so far, was not possible to include in my other albums. “Gemini” features lot of material collected over 25 years career. “My dear Chopin” has been the first instrumental metal songs I’ve ever composed, obviously inspired by F. Chopin and it says it all. I’ve then composed songs for specific events, such as “Angels in the Shadow” for the ProgHead festival 2008 (Budapest) guest appearance, “Adagio in G minor” by Albinoni was arranged for a clinic, “Hands of Fire” as opening song for some of my live solo shows.
Describe the album as a whole and describe each song track by track
“Gemini” collects my instrumental songs composed along my career, therefore I titled it “Gemini” which is my astrological sign. That’s me and my music fully represented. Songs range from Metal and Symphonic-Metal to Prog including some New-Age atmospheres. That’s basically my vision of music, quite open and wide.
1. Hands of Fire Composed and arranged by Mistheria
Clearly an intro song, Keytar on fire, composed as opening of my live solo appearances.
2. Angels in the Shadow Composed and arranged by Mistheria
Written for ProgHead Festival 2008 (Budapest) guest appearance, it’s a virtuoso and melodic song. Dark intro, themes based on catchy melodies followed by shredding solos, featuring an amazing Guitar solo by Chris Caffery.
3. Fight of the Bumblebee Composed by R. Korsakov / Mistheria – Arranged by Mistheria
Arrangement based on the legendary “Flight of the Bumblebee” by R. Korsakov. It features an heavy riff and many virtuoso parts between keyboards, Guitar and bass. Classical meets shredding!
4. Moonlight Sonata Composed by L.V. Beethoven / Mistheria – Arranged by Mistheria
On this Beethoven’s masterpiece I wanted to be as faithful as possible (if ever it was possible…). Keytar and Piano playing as duet, the middle part features a fantastic melodic and passionate Guitar solo by Roy Z.
5. Air “The Day After” Composed and arranged by Mistheria
It was composed originally on Piano with a very “singable” melody, then I’ve arranged it for band. It features a majestic intro played by myself on the “King of Instruments”, the Pipe Organ which is the instrument I’ve been studying in the Conservatory of Music.
6. Devil’s Steps Composed and arranged by Mistheria
Inspired by a movie soundtrack, it’s one of my oldest song composed, one of the most intricate and complicated songs with some keyboard lead parts reaching the limit of playing speed flowing into a very melodic theme in the chorus.
7. Prayer to God Composed and arranged by Mistheria
Composed for keytar, keyboards and bass-pedal only. Intimate and passionate song, deep vision and meaning behind it, one of my favorite tracks.
8. Prog-Fantasy Composed and arranged by Mistheria
The most, maybe the only, really prog-oriented song based on a Classical-inspired piano intro “rising up” Keytar theme.
9. Falling stars Composed and arranged by Mistheria
Composed during a winter night, in a very special moment of my life when loneliness started to fall down…
10. My Dear Chopin Composed by F. Chopin / Mistheria – Arranged by Mistheria
My metal career’s starting point. It’s not a case that the beginning included Chopin, one of my hugest passion in music and life. Based on a very simple theme, it’s my most known Keytar song.
11. Asturias (Leyenda) Composed by I. Albeniz – Arranged by Mistheria
Sharply split into two parts, the first one played on Piano in a classical way, the second part moves to keyboards featuring an heavy, aggressive and technically high demanding arrangement.
12. Adagio in G minor Composed by T.Albinoni-R. Giazzotto / Mistheria – Arranged by Mistheria
I started to play this song on Accordion when I was 10-year old. Then played it on Piano and afterwards on Pipe Organ, it’s one of most lovely themes I like to play. My Keytar was the next and ultimate instrument to enjoy it.
13. Metal Piano Sonata, op.13 Composed and arranged by Mistheria
A song composed as tribute to the “Prince of Instruments”, the instrument on which I compose and perform most often. It’s the last song, hence the newest, I’ve composed specifically for “Gemini”. The song’s structure is based on a Classical Piano Sonata split into three movements (Allegro, Adagio, Presto). The main melodies in this song are among the dearest to me I’ve ever written.
