HANDS OFF GRETEL | LATE NIGHT LEGACY | PURPLE THREAD
360 CLUB @ LENDING ROOM LEEDS | FRIDAY 13 JULY 2018
Following the first two highly successful, sold out nights of #360RAW, and the announcement a few weeks ago of the third event on 25 May, which also looks likely to sell out, RICHARD WATSON, promoter of the 360 Club at Leeds Lending Room, and ALAN RAW, presenter of BBC Introducing West Yorkshire and BBC Introducing Humberside, are proud to announce the fourth of these special events.
Taking place on FRIDAY 13 JULY – and subtitled #360RAW4 – the event will feature a further three of the region’s finest and most exciting emerging acts: HANDS OFF GRETEL fromSouth Yorkshire; LATE NIGHT LEGACY fromLeeds; and PURPLE THREAD also fromLeeds. Tickets are available now from here: https://www.skiddle.com/e/13214686
As with the previous #360RAW events, the night will see Alan Raw DJ before and between the live sets, playing new music of all styles from local artists. Anyone can turn up and meet the face behind BBC Introducing and are encouraged to bring demos which he may well play on the night, or pass onto the producers for consideration on his shows.
The ethos of #360RAW is purely about supporting emerging acts, a passion that both Richard and Alan share and one that sees them freely offer musicians their time and help and advice without any hidden agenda, as well as attending free industry events, often arranged by the 360 Club themselves.
HANDS OFF GRETEL
“… If you’re a fan of grunge, riot grrrl, powerful female vocals and catchy distortion, then Hands Off Gretel are a band that need to be on your radar – like right now; the best alternative rock band to come out of the UK in years …” LOUDER THAN WAR
“… Energy, chaos, nihilism and debauchery abound, a trip with Hands Off Gretel will leave you spent; a beautifully polished ballet of chaos, costume and drama presenting lyrics that echo the angst and vulnerability of growing up in 21stcentury Britain …” NORTHERN EXPOSURE
“… One of the most exciting new bands in the UK right now …” ALTERNATIVE PRESS
Formed three years ago in South Yorkshire, and inspired by the likes of Bikini Kill, Hole and Skating Polly, who they supported on their first UK tour, HANDS OFF GRETEL played over 60 shows last year, including appearances at festivals such as Download, Isle of Wight, Rebellion and Camden Rocks. 2018 has already seen them play Live at Leeds and Liverpool Sound City with numerous further festivals to follow, and will see the release of their second album – which they recently recorded at Monnow Valley Studio in Wales – the follow up to their acclaimed debut Burn the Beauty Queen.
LATE NIGHT LEGACY
“… Late Night Legacy are the hottest rock band Yorkshire has produced in a long time …” TICK X
“… Sounding like Black Label Society with a Chili Peppers twist, the four-piece unleash a classic sound with a maturity and polish not often found in bands so young; following in the footsteps of Pulled Apart by Horses in the crusade to keep the Leeds scene alive …” RATTLE MAG
“… They’re going to be very, very big …” DAPPER FM
Often hurtling their bodies across the stage at breakneck speeds, LATE NIGHT LEGACY unleashes a sound that feels like euphoria with a side of madness. Unless you maintain a modicum of composure, you’ll find yourself tearing off your clothes and dancing with strangers while the hairs on your neck stand tall. Having shared stages with Maximo Park, The Ordinary Boys, The Fratellis, The Sherlocks and Reef, the band have confirmed an appearance at this year’s Kendal Calling Festival with many more to be announced soon.
“… Liz Mann’s vocals have much of the nonchalant, hard-ass sass of peak Debbie Harry, complete with her richer tone; this is a voice that could go far …” HALFWAY 2 NOWHERE
“… Strutting onto the dancefloor wearing a coat made of an entirely new genre – glam-grunge …” LISTEN WITH MONGER
With UK and international radio play under their belt and their exhilarating live performances prone to the odd mid-song poetry break, PURPLE THREAD – championed by Gus Unger-Hamilton from alt-J no less – are rapidly forging a name for themselves as a hugely captivating live band. Their latest single, Glitter, is a snappy, grunge-tinged singalong, providing a perfect snapshot of their vision to incorporate the absurdities of life into memorable hooks, adrenaline-spiked guitars and furious grooves.
