Gaining Purpose Through Passionate Hatred third full length offering from the LA based band and it’s a dozzie. Part Metal, part Hardcore all fun, it’s a blistering album with nine tracks of pure aggression and power.

The opener ‘Awol (State Of The Union)’ has very subtle Slayer sound and it is full on. Throughout the album you get a very definite Hardcore sound but with a serious Metal background and it work’s a treat. Tracks like ‘Harakiri’, ‘Kill For You’, ‘Forgive & Remember’ and ‘Gaining Purpose’ show you how versatile the band are with changing their sound up from Hardcore to near Death Metal, between vocals that are nearly spoken, to growling interspersed with excellent riffs and pounding bass and drums.

‘TFR’ is one of the standout tracks as it is pure power and aggression with a real Hardcore-Crossover sound with snarled out lyrics and a crushing beat. ‘The Sound Of Pain’ runs it a close second and it of much the same vein in terms of aggression, but it’s a real speed demon that again harks back to a Slayeresque sound only to be ripped up again as it closes to a down tuned Death Metal sound.

The album finishes with ‘Defection (Union Of The State)’ and although it starts out at a nice sombre pace as it trudges along it then takes a turn and stomps its way through nearly seven minutes of chaos until it calms itself down with a nice little instrumental interlude before coming back to finish you off with its final crushing blow.
